Is Alcohol Causing You Harm?

Alcoholism, also known as “alcohol use disorder” or “alcohol dependence,” is a complex and disabling addictive disorder that affects millions of individuals and families worldwide. Recognizing the signs of alcohol addiction is the first step towards recovery.

Early Stages of Alcohol Dependence

  • Embarrassment over actions while drinking
  • Loss of control while under the influence
  • Preoccupation with drinking activities
  • Increased tolerance to alcohol
  • Difficulty stopping once you start drinking

Advanced Stages of Alcoholism

  • Compulsive and uncontrolled consumption despite negative consequences
  • Significant impact on health, relationships, and social standing
  • Threats to personal happiness and well-being
  • Strain on family, work, and community relationships
  • Physical dependence and withdrawal symptoms when not drinking

What is Alcoholism?

Alcoholism is characterized by the drinker’s inability to control compulsive drinking, despite awareness of its harm to their health and those around them. It’s a chronic disease that affects both the brain and behavior, leading to an inability to control alcohol use.

Important Note: Alcohol detoxification may be needed before treatment. Our Medical Director is available for assessment to ensure your safety during the recovery process.
